IFR Jump Start Program

This 12-week group course will help you get off to the best possible start in the Improvise for Real method. You will learn the most important IFR concepts and exercises, there will be lots of interaction with fellow students and you will receive feedback and get the personal help and support you need.

The course will be hosted in a private online group that you will belong to. You will receive a new video lesson every week, with very clear homework assignments so you know exactly what to practice. We will cover Exercise 1: Landscape; Exercise 2: Melody; and Exercise 3: Pure Harmony. You will explore the seven harmonic environments and improvise over your first chord progressions. There will be Mastery Level exercises for more experienced improvisers.

Every week we will also meet during a live video conference where we can talk about the more human and personal side of learning to improvise.

Throughout the entire course, I will answer your questions and even listen to the recordings of your practicing if you like, in order to give you personalized advice and ideas to explore in your practicing.

The course is open to all melodic instruments, including all brass and woodwinds (saxophone, trumpet, clarinet, flute, trombone etc). You are welcome whether you are starting from scratch with IFR, want to fill in the missing gaps in your current IFR practice or whether you are a more experienced musician who wants to learn a creative way of practicing improvisation.

*To attend this program you will need to have the IFR e-book and IFR Jam Tracks Levels 1 and 2.

After finishing this course you will have a very solid foundation to continue practicing the IFR method on your own.
