IFR exercise "Seven Worlds Expanded" in the 5 chord

For IFR students practicing Exercise 3: Pure Harmony, this is a demonstration of the exercise Seven Worlds Expanded on the alto saxophone. Ivan Edwards demonstrates the exercise exploring the 5 chord in the unlimited range. He alternates between improvising with all seven notes of the 5th harmonic environment and improvising with just the chord notes. (The chord notes of the 5 chord are notes 5, 7, 2 and 4 on your tonal map.)

Notice how improvising with just the chord notes really helps to clarify the sensation of the 5th harmonic environment. As soon as you are feeling this harmonic environment very clearly, you can free yourself from this restriction and enjoy improvising with all seven notes of the tonality. This exercise is great way to get to know both the overall sound of the 5th harmonic environment and also the melodic possibilities of each note.
