Get ready for my chord melody workshop!

In this video I'll teach you a fantastic creative exercise for learning to see the chord notes in the music all around you. This is the ideal preparation for my chord melody workshop which you can learn about below. The jam tracks that I'm using in this video are from our IFR Jam Tracks Level 1: Seven Worlds.

Here are the jam tracks I was using in this video (all are in the key of G):

1 chord (notes 1, 3, 5, 7)

2 chord (notes 2, 4, 6, 1)

3 chord (notes 3, 5, 7, 2)

4 chord (notes 4, 6, 1, 3)

5 chord (notes 5, 7, 2, 4)

6 chord (notes 6, 1, 3, 5)

7 chord (notes 7, 2, 4, 6)

Join my upcoming online chord melody workshop in April, 2020!

Learn to play and improvise in chord melody style in this 12-week online group course. Beginners welcome! Through step-by-step creative exercises and my personal coaching, you'll learn to express yourself creatively in chord melody style on the guitar.

Here's what you'll learn:

  • How to arrange any song in chord melody style for totally unaccompanied solo guitar
  • How to IMPROVISE with complete freedom in chord melody style
  • How to see chords all around you when you are soloing so that you can add them to your solo
  • How to use chord melody as an incredible tool for learning about harmony and ear training

Open to everyone - Beginners welcome!

You do not need to be an expert in the IFR method or have any experience at all with chord melody guitar. If you know how to play just one major scale on your guitar (and I'll teach you if you don't), then you already have everything you need to start playing the guitar in chord melody style, which will accelerate every aspect of your guitar playing and your musical ability.

12 weekly video lessons - yours to keep forever

Every week you'll receive a new video lesson that will teach you how to build the next level of our chord melody practice. These video lessons are yours to download and keep forever. The lesson videos are designed for both beginning and advanced guitarists. If you're a beginner to chord melody, I'll show you how to make beautiful music with simple harmonic material that you're going to really enjoy working with. If you're more advanced then we can expand on these concepts and apply them to more sophisticated harmonic material. But we'll all be going through the course together, supporting each other every step of the way.

Weekly creative exercises and feedback

The second element of the course are weekly projects and creative exercises to work on. These are optional, so if you're not able to practice one week you can still keep right on going with the course. But these creative exercises give you the opportunity to get my personal feedback and help with your playing, because you can record videos of your practicing and share these videos with me directly. You can send me these videos privately if you don't want anyone else to see them. Or you can also share them with the entire group so that you can also get feedback and ideas from other guitarists in the course.

Community interaction, questions and support

The third element in the course is a private Facebook Group where the entire community can share ideas, ask questions and even upload recordings of our practicing. This is a great opportunity for you to make friends with other IFR guitarists, some of whom I've been working with for years. I think it's going to be a lot of fun and my hope is that you'll make connections that will be a great source of help and encouragement.
